The approval enables faster, locally routed online transactions as Saudi Arabia expands its digital commerce infrastructure

Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Mastercard Gateway announced it has received certification from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) to support online transactions through the Kingdom’s New E-commerce Payments Interface, marking a significant step in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s digital payment infrastructure.

As per a recent press release, the certification allows Mastercard Gateway to process e-commerce transactions locally through the new interface, offering merchants and acquirers lower latency, local routing, tokenization, fraud prevention tools, and direct integration with the national payment network, Mada. The move comes as global online commerce continues to accelerate, increasing demand for faster and more secure digital payments.

Mastercard said the integration will help advance Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing e-commerce sector and contribute to the Kingdom’s wider digital transformation objectives. Saud Swar, Mastercard’s Country Manager for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, and the Levant, noted that the company aims to support a thriving digital economy through secure infrastructure and smart integration.

The upgrade is also expected to reduce barriers for merchants and support progress toward Vision 2030’s digital economy goals. Mastercard Gateway, which launched on-soil operations in Saudi Arabia in October 2024, currently supports more than 35 payment methods and offers customers enhanced security features, including tokenization, biometrics, and 3D Secure authentication.

With a global network of more than 250 acquirers and over half a million merchants, Mastercard Gateway processed more than one billion transactions in Saudi Arabia in 2024, underscoring its expanding role in the Kingdom’s digital commerce landscape.
