Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: Neom, the groundbreaking sustainable development in Saudi Arabia, announced the procurement of eight Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil ships from Candela, the leading manufacturer of electric vessels, to service its planned water transport network.
The first patch of the eight vessels is set to be delivered in 2025 and early 2026, according to the company’s statement.
The Candela P-12 ship flies above the waves on computer-guided underwater wings and uses 80% less energy than conventional ships, allowing it to combine long-range and high speed for the first time in an electric vessel.
Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and Founder of Candela, said: "The P-12 is designed to create zero-emission water transport systems which have significant improvements over traditional water commuting.”
He elaborated that P-12 ships offer passengers short waiting times, quick connections, and an enjoyable experience without taxing the environment with wakes, emissions, and noise.
Candela P-12 was launched in 2023 and is set to debut in Stockholm’s public transport this year.
