
Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The point of sale (PoS) activity in Saudi Arabia saw a significant rise in recent years, reflecting the country’s growing shift towards digital payments and cashless transactions.
The number of PoS transactions in the Kingdom reached 899 million in August, with sales amounting to SAR 58.5 billion, the monthly bulletin of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) revealed.
The number of PoS terminals faintly rose to 1.85 million in August, compared to 1.82 million in the previous month.
Likewise, the number of e-commerce transactions conducted using Mada cards increased to 94.1 million in August, with sales worth SAR 17.5 billion, compared to 90.4 million transactions in July.
The restaurants and cafés sector seized the largest share of PoS sales in August at SAR 8.3 million across 259,569 transactions, trailed by the food and beverages (F&B) sector which recorded sales estimated at SAR 8.2 million across 208,788 transactions.
