Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, officially entered the Saudi market, launching trials of its Robotaxis and Robobuses in key cities such as Riyadh and AlUla.
With backing from the Transport General Authority, WeRide has begun site preparations for Robotaxi operations, set to roll out on Uber in the coming months, according to the company’s press release. Full commercial services are expected by late 2025.
WeRide’s Robobus is already being tested across several high-profile locations, including King Fahad Medical City, Aramco communities, the Ritz-Carlton Riyadh, and tourism hotspot AlUla. Designed for last-mile transport in extreme heat, the Level-4 autonomous vehicle supports large venues like parks, hotels, and medical centers.
In addition, WeRide’s Robosweeper S1 has been deployed at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, marking the first monetized autonomous sanitation project in the Kingdom and the broader Middle East.
This expansion comes amid a broader regional push. In May, WeRide extended its Robotaxi partnership with Uber to 15 cities globally, following successful launches in Abu Dhabi and plans for Dubai and beyond.
