Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Hyundai Motor Group, in partnership with ENOWA—NEOM’s energy and water subsidiary—announced completing a groundbreaking hydrogen mobility trial in Trojena, marking the first deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles in high-altitude conditions within Saudi Arabia.
According to a recent press release, the test featured Hyundai’s UNIVERSE fuel cell electric bus operating on steep gradients of up to 24% at elevations reaching 2,080 meters. Simulating future passenger transport between NEOM’s central district and Trojena, the trial aimed to assess the viability of hydrogen-powered mobility in challenging terrain.
This milestone builds on a September 2024 MoU between Hyundai and NEOM’s Mobility sector, aimed at bringing next-gen zero-emission transport solutions to the region. ENOWA recently established NEOM’s first hydrogen refueling station, enabling extended operations of the hydrogen bus between October and December 2024.
The trial supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of economic diversification and sustainable innovation. Hyundai's collaboration with NEOM and ENOWA reinforces its broader commitment to hydrogen mobility through HTWO, the Group’s dedicated hydrogen business platform.
