Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: The Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), and Microsoft signed a memorandum of understanding to study the delivery of Microsoft’s sovereign-cloud services in Saudi Arabia.
According to PIF’s press release, this move aims to strengthen data security, confidentiality and sovereignty while expanding access to advanced cloud and AI technologies within the Kingdom.
Microsoft plans to work closely with PIF and SITE to evaluate how its sovereign-cloud model—already used by governments and regulated sectors worldwide—can support Saudi Arabia’s priorities in security, compliance and data residency. The agreement also opens the door for collaboration in research, development, innovation and knowledge transfer.
PIF said the initiative aligns with its ICT sector strategy, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a globally competitive technology hub by driving innovation and building local capabilities to accelerate economic diversification.
The MoU is non-binding and remains subject to required conditions and regulatory approvals.
